Malaysia celebrates 67th independence anniversary

The 67th anniversary celebration of Malaysia’s independence was held in Putrajaya on August 31. The makeup performance, mainly dragon and lion dance, made its debut at the National Day celebration.

The theme of Malaysia’s National Day this year is “Prosper Malaysia: The Spirit of Independence”. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar said in his National Day speech on the evening of the 30th local time that all ethnic groups had played an important role in the struggle for Malaysia’s independence, and it was the power of national unity that achieved Malaysia’s independence. He hopes to further strengthen the unity of the Malaysian people through the National Day celebration.

The National Day celebration on that day attracted more than 100,000 people to participate, and more than 12,000 people and more than 70 teams participated in the celebration parade. In the celebration parade, the makeup performance team that appeared for the first time presented wonderful dragon, lion and tiger dance performances.

Malaysian Deputy Minister of Communications Chong Nien-kwan introduced on social media that this celebration not only included dragon and lion dance performances, but also invited Indian drum teams to participate in the parade, and there were Chinese and Tamil songs, showing the beauty of Malaysia’s multicultural culture.

On August 31, 1957, the Federation of Malaya declared independence. This day is designated as Malaysia’s National Day (also known as Independence Day). On September 16, 1963, the Federation of Malaya merged with Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah to form Malaysia (Singapore withdrew in 1965).
